Sadly, Easter 2020 is a bit different, due to the horrible pandemic.

If you are are seriously self-isolating a ‘flat-pack’ egg ordered on-line might be the go.

I preferred to buy chocolate rabbits, mini-eggs and blocks of hazelnut chocolate from Blackheath’s Friendly Grocer.

MORE CHOCOLATE REQUIRED!

Yesterday my husband and I ordered a take-away lasagne dinner and (as a special treat) cocktails from the Blackheath Bar and Bistro. We don’t own cocktail glasses and my presentation wasn’t perfect, but they were delicious. Rob’s was Rhodo Margarita and mine was Self-isolation Sangria. Let’s hope it won’t be long before we can again enjoy drinks in-house, and listen to live music.

KEEPING TO OURSELVES FOR THE SAKE OF US ALL

This year we are begging tourists and holiday home owners to stay away from the Mountains. How very different it was in the 1920’s, even though times were also hard back then, following WWI and the Spanish flu;

There is currently talk of a recession or even, God forbid, the ‘D’ word. For some, there will be less spent on celebrations this year.

Unfortunately, we are a very unequal society. T’was ever thus, and during the Great Depression wealthy guests at the Hydro Majestic Hotel sat down to a sumptuous feast on Easter Sunday.

After I published this piece someone asked what Easter Pudding was. Here is an old recipe;

One thing we can all enjoy is Mother Nature in our beautiful surroundings.
