The very name of this hidden place warms the heart of a weary Baby Boomer in town for a few days….Grandma’s Bar. 😍 It’s located in the basement at number 275 Clarence Street. There is no street signage….just look for the guitar shop next door.
This place is not very big, so my advice is to pop along fairly early if you want a seat.. The later the hour the younger the crowd I’d say. It opens from 3pm until late Tues. to Frid. 5pm till late on Saturday.
There is even a rocking chair, complete with a cushion and a cosy, crocheted rug.
I doubt if anyone entirely sober has wielded those knitting needles. I think you would call the combined effort a rustic scarf in the making (reminds me of one I produced in the Brownies).
The drinks in Grandma’s Bar will certainly put a spring in your step. My partner Rob chose the following fiery concoction….Ultimate Mai Tai. When the flame dies down in the halved lime, you tip the remains into your ‘Easter Island ‘ cocktail container for an added hit.

Mind you, a few of these babies and you would be lucky to stand up at all!
One of my drink choices was the divine Peanut Butter Colada, a (very) alcoholic milkshake. Oh my word, so much more exciting than the milkshakes of my youth.
The music is another bonus; not so loud that you can’t chat and so many favourites from the 50s and 60s.
Feeling peckish? You can indulge in the ultimate comfort food, a very retro Jaffle.
Rob and I both loved this little spot and will definitely be back. It’s delightful being served by your ‘grandchildren’, bless their hearts.
